The “Trill OG,” Bun B is back to spread the message of the dirty south at this year’s A3C Festival & Conference. We’ve had the privilege of Bun B blessing the stage in recent years and can’t wait to see this year’s performance. He will be a premiere act on the Main Stage for Mass Appeal’s “96” showcase alongside Bone Thugs N Harmony, Too $hort, Redman and many more.
Best known for his collaborative efforts with Pimp C to form the iconic southern hip-hop duo UGK(Underground Kingz), Bun B has been a key factor in the distinct sound of Houston rap music. Bun was able to get his rap career started in the late 80s when he and friend Jalon Jackson formed the duo P.A Militia before teaming up with Pimp C. After gaining industry recognition for their hardcore southern demeanor they released their debut album “Too Hard to Swallow” in 1992 followed by “Super Tight” in 1994. It wasn’t until 1996 that the young southern rap genius’s music career would flourish with the release of “Ridin Dirty” that debuted at No.2 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts and went RIAA Certified Gold while pushing over 850,000 records.
After Bun’s partner Pimp C was incarcerated in 2002, he was able to shift momentum and focus on his solo career. His first solo album “Trill” was released in October 2005 that reached No.1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts as well as reaching the No. 6 spot on the Billboard 200. He also supplied three more solo albums after the passing of the late great Pimp C. Bun B is definitely a pioneer for southern rap music and has paved the way for many established artists in today’s music scene.
