Kid_Capri_Photo_-_600px.jpgIn continuance of our tradition of bringing the most sought after names in Hip-Hop to our stages, A3C is proud to announce that we will be featuring one of the most respected DJ’s in the game, DJ Kid Capri. We really did our homework this year in an effort to bring attendees an authentic 90’s feel, so it was pertinent that we add someone as influential as Kid Capri to our lineup. Kid Capri may be a common name to true Hip-Hop heads out there, but for those who don’t know who he is, his story is rather interesting.

DJ Kid Capri was born in the birthplace of the Hip-Hop movement, The Bronx, New York. The son of African-American and Italian parents, Kid Capri quickly found an interest in music, beginning his DJing career at the age of eight. Rising through the ranks of the New York music scene, he eventually made a name for himself at the eclectic Studio 54 dance club.

Soon after, he began selling his sets and was discovered by Def Comedy Jam, where he deejayed for seven seasons.  He was one of the pioneers of the current mixtape phenomenon we see today, at one point making $2,000 a night off of mixtape sales. This led to him releasing his debut LP in 1993, entitled The Tape. At this point in time he moved into production, working with the likes of Boogie Down Productions, Big L, Madonna, Jay Z and many more. Not long after, he began touring with a number of big names in music, including P Diddy, Usher, R. Kelly, Busta Rhymes and Mary J. Blige. He signed with Columbia records after touring with Diddy.

Kid Capri grew into a mainstream sensation after this success, and went on to become a coveted producer in the music industry. His works were critically acclaimed, and he even earned a Grammy award for his efforts. He has even expanded into pursuits beyond music, working in the television and film industries. He produced and co-directed the film Loaded Lux’s Lionz Den in 2010, which was featured in the 2010 Urban World Film Festival. Kid Capri was also a featured judge on BET’s Master of the Mix reality series. This led to him earning a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Global Spin Awards in 2013.

Kid Capri has continued to reinvent himself, creating Kid Capri Enterprise, a DJ management firm, in 2014. He is also currently in production of Top Tier, his upcoming mixtape. The project is set to feature a number of today’s hottest battle rappers.

Kid Capri is a major player in Hip-Hop, and his creative pursuits have cemented his place in history. He is set to perform on Sunday, October 9th at Kid Capri’s Afterparty. The event will take place at 1:00 A.M. at Edgewood’s Music Room in the Old 4th Ward.
