Armai White is set to leave this mark at this year's A3C festival as he looks to perform at the event for the first time. Although White hails from West Philledelphia, he thinks a range of musical influences helps set him apart from other rappers from his hometown. Don't miss him at the Support Philly Music Showcase.
How are you different than other artists from your region?
I’ve never made any traditional street records about drugs while rapping on trap beats. I make a lot more vibrant sounds than what’s coming out of the city. I’m using a lot of live instrumentation in my music.
What made you want to get into the music business?
I’ve always been into art. I wanted to be a visual artist but I couldn’t really draw. I was always around music growing up in church. Then I heard Eminem rap for the first time and it made me realize I could say whatever I wanted to say. It let me know I had freedom in music. It’s breath of fresh air for me.
Who were your musical influences?
What's the message you’re trying to convey through your music?
I have a lot of messages I want to convey. I want my listeners to keep dreaming and turn it into reality. A dream is so much bigger than one person. Once it manifests it can become huge. Spread your dream and let the world know it.
Talk to me about your showcase at this year’s A3C Festival?
I’m performing on the Support Philly Music Showcase. This is my first time performing at A3C so it’s pretty dope. I’m trying to make the greatest impression possible and have a performance I can be proud of. I’m want to put on for Philly!
What projects are you working on currently?
I’m working on a lot of artist and producer collabs right now to promote both of our brands. I’m also working on a project called “Indian Giver” that should release early 2016.
