A3C and CCI have launched a competition for ideas that use art, music and hip-hop culture as a vehicle to advance social justice and civic engagement in underserved communities in the United States.

A3C is proud to announce a partnership with Atlanta’s Center for Civic Innovation (CCI) called A3C Action that aims to find, support, and invest in new, innovative ideas that use art, music & hip-hop culture as a vehicle to advance social justice and civic engagement in underserved communities. The two organizations will select five ideas from around the country, and those ideas will be pitched at the 11th annual A3C Festival & Conference in Atlanta from October 7-11. More details are at www.a3caction.org.

A3C Action established a fund to invest in the most impressive ideas submitted. The initial funding will come from a community driven fundraiser on Indiegogo, and A3C has committed to a $10,000 match. The Indiegogo for the A3C Action fund is available HERE.

On Sunday, October 11, A3C attendees will have the ability to vote for their favorite ideas at A3C’s annual Best Block Party Ever. A portion of the A3C Action funds will be distributed based upon audience vote.

A3C Action seeks creative projects that address systemic social justice challenges and opportunities for civic engagement. This includes, but is not limited to, ideas that work to empower citizens, increase access to essential rights like a great education or fair treatment in the criminal justice system, and address issues of economic opportunity, income inequality and ownership. All projects must include use of art, music, and/or hip hop culture as a driver. A3C Action aims to increase new, diverse audiences of creatives and artists at the public problem solving table.

We have always tried to be a positive force in the hip-hop community by providing an opportunity for artists and influencers from all over the world to connect, build and learn.” says Mike Walbert (A3C Director). “A3C has become a highly regarded institution in the hip-hop community and that is a responsibility our team does not take lightly.  As we enter our 11th annual A3C Festival & Conference we are very excited to formally announce our partnership with the Center for Civic Innovation.  A3C Action is the culmination of many year of planning, and we look forward to creating something special together.”

Communities across the country are facing unprecedented challenges,” says Rohit Malhotra, founder and executive director of the Center for Civic Innovation. “These challenges didn’t come out of nowhere. These are systemic challenges that have bubbled up over time, and now, we have no choice to look these issues in the face and address them. Our goal for this initiative is to invest in promising ideas that open doors for us to take on even deeper challenges. A3C provides the perfect platform for creative ideas to get the attention and support they need. Creatives have been talking about these issues for a long time. This initiative gives them a way to do something about it, and there are few catalysts better for that type of conversation and action than art and music.
