Today I was going to post about a living legend as I did last week. But upon hearing this news and letting it sink in a little over the weekend, I decided to change things a bit. If at any point in time you've enjoyed listening to these selected works of A Tribe Called Quest, Eminem, or O.D.B., among others, you've no doubt heard Mr. McLaren's influence.
Malcolm McLaren was a London-born impresario who had his finger prints all over music and in particular, Hip hop. Originally involved in the fashion design and punk scenes, his subsequent contributions with The World's Famous Supreme Team has been sampled by everyone from Das EFX and DJ Z-Trip to Public Enemy and Sublime. At a time (1983) when rap music was barely heard on daytime radio let alone acknowledged as a worthwhile artform, his visionary ideas have indeed been proven to stand the test of time.
With the indelible body of work he has left us, we can celebrate the legacy this treasure of a person has given the world for generations to come.
