Performing Live on Friday, Oct 8th on the SMKA: Stargazing Showcase
It’s been a long road for Suga City, the Arkansas bred rap duo consisting of Arkansas Bo and Goines. Though the group built a loyal following throughout the south in the last five years, their regional success has been hard to translate to a major label deal. In and out of a variety of distribution deals, no major seemed to want to fully commit to the talented duo from the “A-state.” Taking their destiny into their own hands, the group decided to focus on releasing their music completely independently to the masses.
Labeled by most Arkansas press as the group, “most likely to succeed,” the pair was first seen nationally when they appeared on the BET show, the Ultimate Hustler. Since then, the pair was featured in the Source Magazine and recently had their song, New New placed on the best-selling Modern Warfare 2 video game.
To close out 2010, the duo has focused on a pair of solo releases. Bo 70’s inspired mixtape, “I Know Dat’s Right,” will be released in October followed by Goines’ solo venture, “It’s Gotta Be Black.”
