Twenty years ago, A-Trak made a name for himself in the music industry by winning the DMC World DJ Championship in 1997. 10 years later, the next major milestone along his musical journey was established when he founded Fool’s Gold Records in 2007. Now, in 2017, the Canadian DJ/Executive took to Sway in the Morning to announce Fool’s Gold’s first annual "Goldie Awards."
This innagural DJ and beat battle will take place on September 7th in Brooklyn. A-Trak is looking to bring back the true essence and competitive spirit of DJ’ing. Speaking on his latest record, “Believe” featuring Quavo and Lil Yachty, A-Trak also revealed that the track was actually recorded in Atlanta at Quality Control studios. The veteran DJ wanted to make sure he caught the ATL natives in an atmosphere that was most natural for them.
New York's own Dave East will take the role as host. Fellow judges include 2017 A3C artist Just Blaze, Diplo, and Mannie Fresh among others. The awards will highlight DJ’s who are breaking new ground in the hip hop genre. The winner of the beat battle will have the opportunity to release a track on Fool’s Gold records while the winner of the DJ battle will perform at Fool’s Gold’s Day Off Festival.
