We asked, and you guys decided! Out of the two highest results based on our Twitter feed, 39% of you guys said that J.Cole, Nas, and Kendrick Lamar would be the best collaboration hands down. However, 37% of the voters were also in favor of a legendary collaboration with Kanye West, Drake, and Pharrell. Although both collabs would be extraordinary, it is hard to compete with a record that has a roster of some of the most talented lyricists this industry has ever seen.
When you bring such amazing talent together for such a large body of work,
it could become extremely difficult and time-consuming. The thought of J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar rapping on the same tracks just builds excitement on the contrary to J.Cole stating he would never want to be overshadowed by Kendrick Lamar’s verses and vice versa. Hip-Hop has always been a competitive industry, but some of the best tracks have been produced based on the notion of competition. For example, think of the songs that Biggie and Pac released while beefing with one another, or the legendary “Ether” track that would have never been created if not for Jay-Z and Nas’ dispute. Hip-Hop needs the unique individualism that comes with each professional artist to help move the culture forward. However, it is also important to seldom produce tracks with various collaborations to bring out to versatility in artists that we typically hear on solo projects.
