The South is "Running the Rap Game" #A3Cpolls

Written by Mike Walbert | Feb 4

We asked, and you answered.

This was a 1-week twitter poll conducted on @A3C.

People are always asking, which city has the juice.  So we asked, "Who is running the rap game right now?"

I can't say we were surprised by the results...

Hip-Hop started on the East Coast when NYC started the game.

The West Coast had a big movement in the 90s when N.W.A, 2 Pac and Snoop shifted the nations attention to the left.

Chicago has become a hot bed for talent.

The South, and specifically Atlanta, has became a national force behind Outkast, and many many others.

[NOTE: These are all headline summaries for MUCH more complex stories including the hard work of hundreds of artists, trailblazers and influencers.  This article is not going to get into detail about the history, but we HIGHLY recommend you research and learn more about the making of these U.S. hip-hop capitals.]

In the past 5+ years, Atlanta music has dominated the radio, youtube, streaming and online media.  It seems like every month a new artist is breaking from the city.  Meanwhile many of the legends are still putting out big records.  That isn't to say there haven't been waves of influence from the San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, NYC, Texas (yeah, the whole state) and many other places aroudn the world... BUT, Atlanta has been at the top of that list the whole time.  Today, Atlanta has the industry foundation in place and a hot bed of talent from around the world that are coming out of Atlanta.

We will be discussing the music industry and why Atlanta, and other cities, have been able to grab and hold the spotlight at the A3C Festival & Conference.
