A3C 2015 Artist: Meet Hip-Hop's "Funkiest Production Duo"

Written by Tai Saint-Louis | Sep 3

Artist Name:

2 Hungry Bros (Deep and Ben Boogz)

Where are you from?
New York, NY

How has your city and influenced your music?

We both grew up 2 Nuyorican boys in pre-Gentrified Lower East Side. Deep's from LaGuardia and Ben's from Vladeck's houses. The House parties were live, and the music was mixed: House, Hip-Hop, Salsa, Freestyle, Disco; and the food was amazing. Maybe the combo of music and food with the radiation from NYC's dirtiest body of water, the East River, made the 2 Hungry Bros like the Toxic Avenger.

What song, video or project are you most proud of to date?

We have three favorites and they are the ones that musically and visually made the 2 Hungry Bros musical staples in the Indie Hip-Hop scene: "Best in Show" w P.so, Von Pea, and Homeboy Sandman; "Carpenter" by Homeboy Sandman; and "The Essence" by Homeboy Sandman which made it to MTV with Deep as the man baby and Boogz on the Beat.

What do you enjoy about bout being Hip-Hop artists?

We love the traveling, whether it's us going to a new city to eat, dig and rock; or our music traveling beyond our physical and financial capabilities and making us wonderful new friends and fans in great new places.

What can people expect from you over the next 6 months?
In August HipNott Records. Hipnott will be putting out "Feast of Legend," which features mcee P.So the Earthtone King as well as our first full beat tape called the "Munchies Beat Tape," ideal for listening freely after America drops it's latest "Prohibition." We're in the lab with P.so banging out a second EP for Hipnott as well as another fully produced album with Likwuid, a sequel to Likwuidity, which we also produced. And lots and lots and lots of Beat Tapes.

What advice would you give to yourself a few years ago?

I would've warned us which mcees just like to ask for beats to sit on and which are motivated to do something with it. Biggups to PremRock because I wish I would've begun our project sooner.

What do you most look forward to about A3C Festival & Conference?

We're looking for motivated new artists with innovative vocal and rhyme talents to make the next couple of years fun and interesting for new fans and faithful ones. We want to build with cats and share our music. We also want some good BBQ and other great Southern culinary staples.
