The MTV Video Music Awards never fails to have powerful performances and random iconic moments that cause craze on social media. From Miley Cyrus twerking on Robin Thicke to Lil Mama crashing Alicia Keys and Jay Z’s “Empire State of Mind” performance, we have had a lot of memorable events in VMA history. Here are a few standout moments from this year’s VMA Awards.

 Kanye West Speech

In recent years, Kanye has led the way in providing memorable and crazy moments. This year Kanye kept it mild in comparison to his recent appearances of putting Taylor Swift on blast or announcing his run for presidency in 2020. Outside of presenting a breath taking video featuring Teyana Taylor, Kanye talked about being a visionary in this generation while throwing slight shade to Amber Rose and Ray J. At the end of the day love and positivity was the underlying message of this public announcement.

Beyoncé Performance

Beyoncé stole the show with her 16-minute performance of pure righteousness and dominance. She put on an eccentric mini concert of her own by bringing out her entire production team to make a glamorous and prop filled event. She also dominated in the awards category taking home eight VMA awards while shattering records.

Rihanna & Drake

Rihanna put on a great show of her own with four different performances throughout the night. She was presented the Video Vanguard Award by Drake which ended in an intimate confession of love and a kiss to woo the crowd. She also took home a collaborative award with Calvin Harris for “Best Male Video.”
