DJ Screw helped  craft a Texas hip-hop legacy that catipulted local acts like Lil Flip, Paul Wall and Chamillionaire to national chart toppers. The impact of his iconic chopped & screwed style still permeates through the rap and R&B tracks of today. Contemporaries of the late great DJ Screw, OG Ron C and DJ Michael "5000 Watts" are still working hard to keep the Texas hip-hop scene alive. This Wednesday the duo curated a show highlighting fresh talent.  
 
Houston bred rapper Chucky Trill showcased his boastful brand of "cinematic trap music."
 
I got a story to tell. I paint pictures with my words. And I have fun doing what I do. I'm new to the rap game. And I'm ready to take the industry by storm for real. 

South India born, Houston raised Raj the Rapper lit up the stage with his energetic raps. 

I'm definitely one of a kind in the since that I was born in South India and raised in Houston Texas. I rap, I sing, I play music. I'm really immersed in it. And I feel like I have to represent my people.

Chicago duo Mother Nature used their music to drop gems about "Black Girl Genius."


We create. It's very hip-hop. Very grounded in old school hip-hop. We do a lot of stuff that is self affirmations for black folks and black women and people who are trying to gain freedom and gain peace.
