How to celebrate ATLiens 20th birthday

ATLiens turns 20 TODAY.

On August 26, 1996, ATLiens became the soundtrack of Atlanta.  If you are an 80s baby and went to high school in metro Atlanta, then Outkast’s ATLiens is your anthem.  If you just moved to Atlanta yesterday, then Outkast’s ATLiens is your anthem, and you just don’t know it yet.

A year after Andre 3000 declared “The south got something to say” at the Source Awards, Outkast dropped ATLiens and changed the trajectory of Atlanta, the city’s music scene and hip-hop culture in general.  It drew attention from New York City and Los Angeles to Atlanta, and provided a spark for a movement.  The album created a spotlight on the city and a platform for other artists.  The result 20 years later?  Hip-hop music now defines the city and has become Atlanta’s largest export.  Today, the city is the capital of hip-hop.

Want to celebrate, and don't know how?  We have 2 events at 2016 A3C Festival & Conference just for you!

A3C & Mass Appeal present 1996 Show

A3C & Mass Appeal will be hosting a series of ‘96 themed events, panels and interviews culminating with the 1996 Show on A3C’s Main Stage, Saturday, October 8th.  The 1996 Show will feature some of ‘96s most iconic artists including: Bone Thugs N Harmony, Bun B, Too $hort, Redman, Erick Sermon & Keith Murray of Def Squad, Kid Capri and an ATLiens Tribute Show w/ Mr. DJ

The Making of ATLiens with Mr. DJ

Mr. DJ (Legendary DJ/Producer for Outkast) is credited with being an essential producer and influence on the classic album.

There was tremendous growth in the sophomore album, which can again be traced back to the impact Mr. DJ had on Outkast.   Witness history before your ears on a musical journey through time with Grammy Award Winning producer, Mr DJ, as he discusses his contributions to the Outkast classic album, ATLiens.

Friday, Oct 7th from 12:00pm - 1:30pm at A3C's Pro-Audio Center (SAE Institute Institute)

Later, Mr. DJ formed Earthtone III production group with Andre 3000 & Big Boi. Collectively, the trio produced roughly 80% of tracks from Stankonia.
