One of Cleveland's best killed their 1996 MTV performance. You guessed right, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony! Performing “Tha Crossroads” , the lyrically inclined group provided the audience with a very eerie ,but creative performance that was very fitting and displayed the group's true style.
This performance can be seen as one of the best because Bone Thugs-N-Harmony put on a show like no other rapper would.Of course during the time of 1996, we had Hip-Hop artist that were very intuned with creative display of their lyrics. From music videos to album covers, 1996 Hip-Hop artist were distributing amazing visuals, but Bone Thugs-N- Harmony gave MTV “to-the-t” representation of one of their most popular songs.
Immediately, the harmonious group ease onto the stage out of life size bird cages wearing smooth white suits. The back-up singer creates a feeling that makes you believe you are actually at the crossroad of your life with her soulful renditions of past feelings. What really makes this performance remarkable is that fact that it isn’t so “blinged out” like a Rich Homie Quan performance. What is completely striking are the props used on stage during the performance. From the dark lights to the horse driven hearse that waltzes onto the stage, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony did an amazing job with sticking to the picture they were trying to convey through lyrics.
This performance is most definitely worthy to be praised because Bone Thugs-N-Harmony truly displayed true artistry.Not only through their lyrics were they able to prompt ideas and philosophies, but they were able to provide another alternative to their lyrics, if you were not able to fully understand their message. Thanks to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, we all have some rethinking to do on how to better our presentation of our art.
